Brendon McCullum played an important hand in getting the Indian Premier League off to a dashing start; the Kiwi wicketkeeper-batsman opened the innings for the Kolkata Knight Riders and slammed an unbeaten 158 which is still the record for the highest score in Twenty20 cricket to almost decimate the Royal Challengers Bangalore single-handedly.
Currently the most-capped player in Twenty20 Internationals, McCullum, who was named the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders in a rather controversial decision by the then coach John Buchanan, was disappointing in the first half of Season 2, but came to the party in the second half of the tournament, scoring 235 runs in his last six innings.
With the burden of captaincy off his shoulders, McCullum will be hoping he can bat more freely. And if he can carry forward his form from the final few matches of IPL Season 2, the Kolkata Knight Riders will surely be better served.
